KEYAMO WANTED THE YOUNG MISLED ABOUT ATIKU; WE PUT THE TRUTH IN THEIR HANDS, AND HIS OWN COLLEAGUE AGREES

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode,

On 14 October, Festus Keyamo promised to “expose” Waziri Atiku Abubakar to young Nigerians who, he said, do not know history. He tried to hang the death of Nigeria Airways on Atiku. The Narrative Force answered him the same day, because our assignment is simple: no young Nigerian should reach the polling unit with a falsehood in his head where the truth should be.

Within a day, you answered Keyamo too. I write to thank you, because on every point that matters you have confirmed what we told him.

We told Keyamo that the airline did not die in 2004. We said it had been dying for years before the Obasanjo and Atiku administration came in, and was only buried in 2004. You have now confirmed it from the inside, as a former Minister of Aviation. You told us that Nigeria Airways had 32 functional planes in 1979, and that by 1999 one grounded plane was all that was left. You said the rest had vanished with nearly all its assets, and the company was drowning in debt.

We told Keyamo that the rot was a long ledger of corruption and mismanagement, and that it ran through governments long before 1999. You have confirmed that too. You wrote that “all forms of corruption” were committed by successive managements and Boards over those twenty years, until the company was “literally gutted”.

When the man who once ran the ministry confirms the record, the debate is over.

We told Keyamo that burying a corpse is not murder. You have confirmed that the liquidation followed years of failed rescue attempts, including advice from the International Finance Corporation, which later withdrew. You said there was “nothing left to save”. You called the decision against another public bailout right. Nobody woke up one morning and killed an airline, as Keyamo claimed. A government buried one that had died long before it arrived.

We told Keyamo that the pensions were paid in instalments by successive governments, and that his principal is not the lone rescuer he claims. You have confirmed this as well. You wrote that the Yar’Adua administration paid most of the pensioners, the Buhari administration followed, and the present government paid “the remainder”. Paying the last instalment of a debt is commendable. It does not make you the man who cleared it.

So I thank you, Chief. When Keyamo set out to mislead the young, you corrected him before we had to repeat ourselves. Your account and ours now stand side by side, and Keyamo’s stands alone.

There is one sentence I will not thank you for. You say you know which side Atiku took in that Council debate, but you will not say it publicly. You have just told Nigerians everything else that happened in that chamber, so that silence does not serve the truth. If you have a fact, publish it. You have shown this week that you can tell the truth when you choose to. Finish the job.

The record is now complete, except for the one line you chose to leave as a whisper.

To Festus Keyamo, a final word. You promised the young a history lesson. Your own cabinet colleague has now read the file and agreed with us. The young Nigerians you set out to mislead have heard the history from both sides of the APC fence, and it is not the history you told them.

Let every young voter take note. Whenever anyone tries to feed you a falsehood about Atiku Abubakar, The Narrative Force will be there with the record, the dates and the documents. You will always have the truth in your hands.

You cannot mislead a generation that has decided to read for itself.
