ATIKU ABUBAKAR: A POLITICAL VISIONARY OFFERING A NEW DIRECTION, A NEW OPPORTUNITY, AND A BETTER NIGERIA IN 2027.

Senator Ehigie Uzamere

Nigeria does not suffer from shortage of human talent or natural resources; it suffers from deficit of purposeful leadership, sound economic management, and effective governance.

At this critical juncture in our national history, ADC presidential ticket combination of Atiku Abubakar and his running mate Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, stands as the best option for Nigeria. Its arrowhead Atiku Abubakar is a veteran political figure whose vision, experience, and longstanding advocacy for economic reforms deserves serious consideration. Having served as Vice President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007, he understands the complexities of governance and the urgent need to build a nation where opportunity is not a privilege reserved for a few, but a right accessible to all. His political journey reflects a conviction that Nigeria can do better and that its future must be shaped by ideas, competence, and democratic accountability. His understanding of working as a team will enable a seamless and effortless delivery with his running mate.

Atiku’s vision centres on economic liberalisation, private sector growth, entrepreneurship, education, and the creation of sustainable employment. He recognises that government must create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, attract investment, develop infrastructure, and empower citizens to become productive participants in the economy.

Equally important is his advocacy for restructuring Nigeria’s federation with the sole aim of promoting fiscal responsibility, devolving appropriate powers, and making governance more responsive to the needs of the people, from a level nearest to the people and not from a seeming aloof center.

In a diverse country like ours, national unity must rest on justice, equity, mutual respect, and equal opportunity, rather than domination or exclusion. These principles provide an important foundation for a national conversation about the Nigeria we want to build. These principles are best effected and felt by the people when governance is devolved in such a way to take their unique characteristics and opportunities into consideration.

The urgency of that conversation cannot be overstated. Millions of Nigerians are burdened by the high cost of living, unemployment, insecurity, and declining purchasing power. Families struggle to meet basic needs, businesses face mounting pressures, and young people increasingly question whether their country can offer them a worthwhile future or not. These challenges demand more than political rhetoric. They require a credible economic recovery plan, effective security measures, transparent institutions, and measurable commitments to improving the lives of ordinary citizens. Atiku Abubakar has promised to offer Nigerians a pathway out of our present predicaments and is ready to demonstrate how his vision will translate into practical solutions, supported by a competent team, clear priorities, and accountable implementation.

The 2027 general elections must therefore become a decisive contest of ideas, competence, and national purpose. For Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the task is to transform public dissatisfaction into a credible, inclusive, and disciplined movement for democratic change. This requires a clear manifesto addressing the economy, food affordability, job creation, education, healthcare, insecurity, federal restructuring, and the restoration of public confidence. It also requires building strong grassroots structures across all states and local governments, engaging young people and women meaningfully, reconciling differences within the opposition, and presenting a united front around shared national objectives. And the ADC already has a detailed plan to achieve these.

For the ADC, campaign promises will be realistic, costed, measurable, and communicated in language Nigerians can understand. Its supporters will be mobilized peacefully, and the Party will encourage voter registration and participation, protect the integrity of the electoral process, and hold its candidates accountable.

As we look towards 2027, I believe Nigeria deserves a leadership debate driven by substance rather than sentiment, policies rather than propaganda, and national interest rather than personal ambition. Atiku Abubakar will continue to make his case to Nigerians with clarity, humility, and conviction, while the electorate must judge every candidate by the quality of his or her ideas, record of public service, and capacity to deliver.

Our objective must go beyond winning political office; it must be to restore hope, revive the economy, strengthen democratic institutions, and build a country where hard work is rewarded and every citizen can live with dignity. The time has come for Nigerians to participate actively in shaping our destiny and to demand a government that serves the people faithfully.

2027: A NEW DIRECTION. A NEW OPPORTUNITY. A BETTER NIGERIA.

Let us organise, mobilise, persuade, and participate. Let us build a movement rooted in competence, integrity, inclusion, and a shared commitment to national renewal. The future of Nigeria belongs to all of us, and its direction must be determined by the informed and collective will of her people. Let us work together with Atiku Abubakar whose advertised pathway to recovery ought to be embraced by many, irrespective of party affiliation. Nigeria must come before selfishness.
