In the grand tapestry of a nation, stability is the cornerstone, and stability is never the work of one generation alone. It is the harmonious fusion of the wisdom and experience of age with the vibrant energy and exuberance of youth. Nigeria has arrived at a moment when this ancient truth is no longer a mere abstraction. It has become the living principle around which our people are gathering, and it now wears a name and a platform.

That platform is the African Democratic Congress, and the coalition it carries is, in its very composition, the symbiosis of age and youth made visible.
THE FOUNDATION OF AGE
The venerable elders, with their wealth of knowledge and insight, provide the solid foundation upon which a society can flourish. Their counsel, borne of decades in the arena, steadies us through tumultuous times and offers a sense of continuity. They are the keepers of our history, the ones who remember how a nation is built and how it can be broken, so that we do not repeat the mistakes of our ancestors.
This is the gift the ADC coalition brings to the table. Under the chairmanship of Senator David Mark and the leadership of men and women who have governed, legislated and served, the party offers something the present order cannot counterfeit: proven hands. Atiku Abubakar himself frames the offer plainly, that the ADC brings experience and credibility, that most of those leading it have been in government before and made successes of it. This is not nostalgia for the past. It is the discipline of memory placed at the service of the future.
Experience is not the enemy of change. It is the steady hand that keeps change from becoming chaos.
THE FIRE OF YOUTH
Conversely, the youthful members of our society infuse it with an infectious energy and enthusiasm. Their optimism and innovative spirit propel us forward, challenging the status quo and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. They bring fresh perspectives, they embrace change, and they refuse the tired excuses of a failing establishment.
Nigeria is a young country in the most literal sense, its median age barely eighteen, its people among the youngest on earth, and its young are no longer content to be spectators. They are organising, registering, collecting their voter cards and demanding competence over cash. It is a striking thing that a statesman of Atiku’s standing roots his own ambition in them, describing the younger generation who have flooded into the ADC as his own children and casting his bid as a duty owed to them. He calls the nation’s youth its greatest asset, and he asks them to reject inducement and vote for competence. That is not the language of a man clinging to yesterday. It is the language of a bridge.
WHERE THE TWO MEET
It is in the harmonious blending of these two forces that a nation finds its equilibrium. The wisdom of age tempers the exuberance of youth, while the vitality of youth invigorates the experience of age. Together they build a society that is resilient and adaptable, capable of weathering the storms of change while remaining true to its core values.
This is precisely what the coalition represents. On one side, the seasoned architects of governance. On the other, a rising movement of young Nigerians drawn from every party and every zone, determined to deliver millions of votes at the polling units. Neither is complete without the other. The elder without the young man’s fire administers a nation into stagnation. The young man without the elder’s counsel burns bright and burns out. The ADC has chosen to marry the two, and in that marriage lies its strength.
THE ROAD TO 16 JANUARY 2027
As we navigate the ever evolving landscape of our world, let us cherish and nurture this delicate balance. Let us honour the wisdom of our elders while embracing the enthusiasm of our youth. When Nigerians go to the polls on 16 January 2027, the choice before them will not merely be between candidates. It will be between a status quo that divides the generations and a coalition that has united them.
For it is in this union that we discover the true essence of stability, a nation that stands firm on the shoulders of its past while striding with confidence, and with its young, towards its future.
